Thanks to Al Bauman for preparing this. I don't remember him taking these photos in Basic School. Glad he did.

Photography has long been a hobby.  I was selected to attend Army Jump School at Ft. Benning in '66.  Thanks to a mixup at HQMC, my orders got me there a week early. To kill the time, I got the OK to photograph the various aspects of the training that week and put together a show when I got back to the unit to brief future attendees.  Our 1stSgt said it helped to show folks what they were getting into and so they knew their way around when they got to Benning.

When I got to TBS, I decided to do something similar.  I got permission from the Captain to carry my camera (a compact Leica 35mm) as long as it was not in plain view and I operated it unobtrusively.  So long as it did not interfere with training, it was OK.  That's probably why you don't remember seeing it.  That's also why most of the pictures are not posed, and some are a bit marginal in quality.  The ones in the show represent about a third of the TBS slides I have.

There was never an official OK from TBS to do it and with privacy issues being what they are today, I'm assuming everyone in the pictures is OK with it being online.  If you get any feedback from any of our guys asking that his picture be removed, let me know and I can modify the show.
